Body Composition Analysis

Everyone has a unique body composition. That’s why InBody uses innovative technology tailored to the individual, not a group. Using medical grade body composition analyzer technology, the InBody provides accurate, precise segmental measurements of your body’s composition.

Other conventional analysis devices use empirical estimations based on factors like age and sex to help improve accuracy. While this approach may be work for people with a “standard” body type, it is inaccurate for those who don’t fit this mold, such as fit elderly adults.

InBody devices are accurate and precise, and have been used in over 2,500 clinical studies worldwide. They are trusted by medical and sports professional across the globe.

How Does the InBody work?

The InBody uses a method called Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA) to measure body composition, which divides your weight into different components, such as Lean Body Mass and Fat mass, to assess health and help guide positive goal strategies. BIA is a method for measuring body composition, including muscle mass, body fat, and total body water. Alternating low and high frequency electrical currents are sent through the water in the body via contact with electrodes to measure impedance. This impedance is used to determine your total body water, which can then be used to determine your fat-free mass (the portion of your body that doesn’t contain fat, including your muscle and bone) and finally, the amount of body fat.

What is Body Composition?

Body composition is a method of describing what the body is made of. It includes fat, protein, minerals, and body water. Body composition analysis can accurately show changes in fat mass, muscle mass, and body fat percentage. With these values, a user can monitor how the body is adjusting to activities like dietary changes, fitness routines, and lifestyle modifications.

How is the InBody analysis performed?

The procedure is a simple one. Shoes and socks are removed, along with any heavy or metal objects worn or contained within any pockets. The user will stand, barefoot, onto the unit and follow the prompts as indicated until overall weight is measured. Then the user will be prompted to take hold of the handgrips in each hand. Safe, low-level currents are sent through the body via hand and foot electrodes. The impedance the currents encounter is measured, and from there, your body composition is determined. The InBody analysis will take less than 60 seconds to provide comprehensive results.

Every InBody Analysis includes a full-page results sheet printout that details muscle, fat, and water measurements and highlights specific areas to focus on. You’ll be able to identify muscle or fat imbalances with the Segmental Lean and Fat Analysis and utilize the Body Fat & Lean Body Mass Control to your advantage to determine a general strategy of how much muscle and fat needs to be gained or lost. Analysis measurements can be stored and reprinted on subsequent analyses in order to chart and compare the user’s progress.

In order to get the most accurate measurements from your InBody experience, we recommend following these basic practices prior to getting your analysis done:

  • Don’t eat or exercise for at least 3 hours beforehand

  • Don’t consume alcohol or excess caffeine for at least 24 hours

  • Don’t shower or use a sauna before coming in

  • Don’t use lotion or ointment on your hands and feet

*Who may not be right for InBody?

  • People with artificial electrical implants such as a defibrillator or pacemaker are not recommended to take an InBody test. The electrical currents of the Inbody may disrupt the functionality of life-sustaining implants.

  • Women who are on their menstrual cycle or are pregnant are also not recommended to test, as they may not obtain accurate results due to subtle changes in their hydration and body water levels.

The InBody Composition Analysis is often coupled with other fat loss programs, such as the Zerona Laser Body Sculpting as part of its treatment program, but you can also utilize it as a stand-alone visit. Just book your appointment and get your analysis!
